Steps to reproduce:

68.5.0esr
I started FF on a laptop with 1920x1080 resolution after I used it before with a docking station on a 2K monitor.

Actual results:

The reopened window is too large. I do see only a blank page. I can't reach anything.

Expected results:

FF should check the screen resolution at program start and reduce its window size if it would be to huge.

Since we do not own a docking device i could not properly test this issue.

However i will be adding a component for this issue in order to get the dev team involved.

You don't need a docking station to reproduce the behavior.

• Connect your laptop to a larger (pixel resolution) external screen.
• Open FF there and make its window larger than the resolution of the laptop display.
• Close FF.
• Disconnect the display.
• Open FF.
  Then you will see a program window that exceeds the actual screen resolution. That should not happen as all controls are unreachable.

I don’t have the laptop at hand to get that information out from FF right now. What I can tell is, that the laptop is a Dell Latitude 7300 with 1920x1080 resolution. During daytime it is connected to a docking station with two 4K 27” Dell LCDs running on DP connections. But the same happens, when I connect the Laptop via HDMI to a 2K 27” Eizo FlexScan EV2750.

I think, a simple fix would be to check the size of the window before opening against the screen resolution it should be opened on. If its greater, reduce it accordingly.

I can't try this on a new version of FF. I'm not allowed to install a newer version. I've tried once and at the next reboot, it was downgraded automatically and all my bookmarks were gone.

Going through comment 8 from Carsten, I have noticed that her hardware is not supported by WebRender.
WEBRENDER_QUALIFIED: blacklisted by env: No qualified hardware

Taking the above into consideration , after some research , I have found out that she is using UHD Graphics 620 on the Dell Latitude 7300 laptop.

I have tried to reproduce this issue in 68.5.0esr and 68.6.0esr as well as the latest Nightly 76.0a1 (2020-03-18) on an ROG STRIX GL703V with a dedicated GTX 1060 set to 1920x1080, and was unable to reproduce it. The following external screens and resolutions were used:

Samsung U28D590D - 28'' 2560 x 1440 and 3840 x 2160
Grundig 40 VLE 4322BF 40'' - WUXGA 1920 x 1080
Sharp 60UI7652E 60" - 4k 3840 x 2160

I believe that this issue may be related to the fact that an integrated GPU is used, however I currently do not have such a configuration to confirm it.

Well, I attached the about:support information from my private PC with the latest FF installed. There, I can easily reproduce the wrong behavior:

• Both monitors connected #1 left with 2560x1440 resolution and #2 right with 1920x1080.
• I open FF on the left monitor and make the window as large as possible without making it full screen size.
• I close FF.
• Disconnect the left monitor #1 (simulates the undocking of the laptop).
• I reopen FF on monitor #2 (now the only one connected to the PC).

As you can see, the FF window stays at the same size and all controls to change that are unreachable.

To fix this, I would like to suggest to check the window size that FF is about to open against the resolution of the screen where it wants to open the window and reduce the size if necessary.

Just before someone asks: monitor #2 is connected via HDMI and can only run the 1920x1080 resolution centered on the screen. It needs to be fed via DP to make the full resolution.

Confirming Vlad's suspicions, this is reproducible 100% with the steps from Comment 16. Reproduced on 76.0a1 (2020-03-19) and Firefox 75.0b6.

Asus GL552VX with FHD display with Intel HD530 Graphics and dedicated GTX 950M (1920x1080)
TV Samsung Q6F55N UHD 4k (3840x2860) with scaling set to 100% (recommended was 300%)
TV connected to laptop with HDMI cable
