I have verified the following, using Firefox Nightly 76.0a1 (Build ID: 20200310214454) on Windows 10 x64, macOS 10.15, Ubuntu Linux 18.04 x64.

  • The “string_id”: “cfr-whatsnew-searchbar-body-enginename” was changed to “string_id”: “cfr-whatsnew-searchbar-body-topsites” in “WHATS_NEW_AWESOMEBAR_74” section located in “about:newtab#devtools” page.

  • Verified the "WHATS_NEW_AWESOMEBAR_74" message in the "What's New" panel and I can confirm that the "Get to the sites you use most with a single click into the address bar. Find things faster with results from Google and your browsing history" string was replaced with the "Now, just select the address bar, and a box will expand with links to your top sites" one. I’ve checked this by doing the following:

    • Activate the “Developer Tools”.
    • Enable the “Disable Popup Auto-Hide”.
    • Navigate to “about:newtab#devtools”.
    • Open the “What’s New” section from the hamburger menu.
    • Click the “Show” button from the “WHATS_NEW_AWESOMEBAR_74” section in the “about:newtab#devtools” page.
