  • i686 Linux wheels are difficult. The .so that the i686 rust compiler produces doesn't seem to be compatible with the libc-cross-compatible requirements of Python
  • There is no actively maintained i686 rust compiler for the Mac.

That leaves Windows, which seems possible, so renaming the bug.

Summary: Python bindings: Release 32-bit x86 wheels for Linux → Python bindings: Release 32-bit x86 wheels for Windows

  • There is no actively maintained i686 rust compiler for the Mac.
Side note: this is because Apple itself dropped i686 support.

For Linux: happy to help out finding a way to do it if we need it, but better done in a follow-up once we did it for Windows.
