Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:75.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/75.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Visited a URL with video (most recently happened here: https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=t8mg_LsEn6E but also happened on YouTube too iirc)
  2. Entered fullscreen of the video
  3. Watched the video for few minutes
  4. Exited the fullscreen (by clicking the exit fullscreen button)

Actual results:

Firefox and the whole operating system froze, CTRL+ALT+DELETE did not work at all and the only thing that responded was mouse movements. A restart of the computer was required.

I have tried for days to reliably reproduce this but am unable to. It happens on new profiles, release/beta/nightly, with and without addons and with updated drivers.
The only idea I have is that, when it happens, I usually see the notification icon in the bottom right corner highlighted. I tried using the OS with the taskbar on top and it did not happen. Could it be something with the taskbar? It is also positioned in the same place as most "Exit fullscreen" buttons.
But... other than that, I have no idea what else it could be.

Computer: E200HA with Windows 10 (1909), about:support: https://bin.privacytools.io/?db52eb4d01309f63#ZYcynkggST7mEQAf0R7R8VoHzupL9MHK+430TxMGxz8=

Perhaps, try disabling hardware acceleration to see if that helps.

Hi,
I was unable to reproduce this issue on my machine win 10x64 on the latest beta, release and nightly. Can you please try to test with hardware acceleration disabled and report back the result?
Thank you!

Summary: Exiting a fullscreen video occasionally freezes Firefox and the OS → Exiting a fullscreen video occasionally freezes Firefox and the OS on "Intel HD Graphics"

I have tried using Firefox without hardware acceleration and while I don't want to confirm anything, I did not see the issue happen. Then, I was told on Matrix to enable HW accel back, but disable media.hardware-video-decoding.enabled. Even with this disabled the issue occured again. However, I'd like to add few updates to this:

  1. It also happened on other video websites
  2. No difference when clicking exit/pressing escape/double clicking video to exit fullscreen
  3. While the screen was frozen still, I could hear that clicking and pressing spacebar (to pause the video for example) worked.

I just tried making Firefox fullscreen by pressing F11 and upon pressing it again to exit, it froze just like the videos did.

Another thing I tried is changing "full-screen-api.ignore-widgets" to true and I can say that I have not experienced any freezes. It's good enough as a temporary fix.
