The front page of our website currently lists all news items back to the 2.40 release - we used to clean those up when new releases were added. This should be an easy fix with a couple of showfront attributes flipped.
This patch hides all the previous 2.40-2.49.x release news items from the front page, as well as some news items older than a year (Today is "I love Free Software Day" and "Fight for Net Neutrality" which was posted in 2017 - keep either of those if you think that they are still relevant and worth to be posted on the front page; note that they are still visible on the general "News" page!).
The "showfront" mechanism as such still seems to work fine, the reason these items show still up on the front page is simply that the old entries were never disabled on the front page, as was done routinely with older releases prior to 2.40.
This patch should be pushed along with the other website updates once 2.53.2 beta 1 is released, thus removing the 2.53.1 beta 1 announcement (but not the one for 2.53.1 final release).
We should probably have just the most recent beta and the most recent final release announcement persistent on the front page, with the older ones of the same category removed once a new {beta, final} is announced.
As for general announcements, I've kept "SeaMonkey has a new sponsor!", "SeaMonkey and the future", and "Help squashing bugs in mail and news" since they were posted within the last 12 month and still look relevant.
