Pretty simple. 2002081408 trunk: apply theme -> mail/news works 2002081608 trunk: apply theme -> mail/news doesn't launch, Mozilla hangs in Task manager after quit.
I should mention that "Classic" and "Modern" work fine. It is all third party themes that stopped working with 20020816 trunk.
Severity: normal → blocker
Crap. I was able to reproduce this more than 4 separate times. I went back and tested 0814 trunk and it worked, then tried 0816 again and it didn't work. Then I filed this bug. Then I tried 0815 and it worked, and tried 0816 again. Then it worked. Very odd. I'm not insane ;-)

Now it doesn't work again. Something is seriously wrong here.

Ok. I verified this further using the following steps: 1. Set any third party theme. 2. Unzip 0813 trunk to C:\Mozilla and launch Mozilla -> CTRL+2 for mail/news. Everything works (closed and launched 5 times). 3. Delete C:\Mozilla and unzip 0815 trunk to C:\Mozilla. Launch Mozilla -> CTRL+2 for mail/news. Works first time. 4. Close Mozilla and launch again...try mail/news. No go. Close Mozilla and window goes away, but Mozilla process lingers in Task Manager. Repeated 5 times.

Summary: Themes Don't Work → Mail/News Fails with Third Party Themes
Have you also tested a non-orbit Theme ? This sounds like an invalid bug. (and it's no blocker)
Severity: blocker → major
Notice Grey Modern in my previous post. I wasn't thinking it was a blocker because themes didn't work per se, but for a more insidious effect this has. I had just changed Mozilla installation directories on my system, and I thought Mozilla had gone haywire. After numerous attempts at renaming profiles, etc., I figured out what was happening. This is dangerous behavior.
maybe dup of bug 162891
The following bugs might be the same thing: bug 162891 bug 162870 All bugs indicate that the problem started with 0815 builds.
