I have a similar problem: tab preview didn't scale properly.
3200x1800 laptop display with 2x scaling, Firefox 80.0.1 and Nightly 82.0a1 on Wayland.
If scaling disabled previews has correct sizes.

Wait. This is not a multi-monitor or HiDPI issue, even though HiDPI exposes weirdness more easily.

None of this can actually work at all on Wayland. You can't openPopupAtScreen with screen coordinates on a windowing system that isolates you from any screen coordinates!

It's in general kinda odd that JS code calculates screen coordinates. There should be a way to say "center this inside the window" in the whole XULPopup thing :/

You can't open a popup on screen coordinates but it's possible to open popup relatively to parent window. i.e. when Firefox window is maximized we can use Firefox window size and open the popup at center of Firefox window.

Of course. We can basically only open it at the center of the Firefox window. But the ctrlTab js code doesn't know about that, it unconditionally tries to position using our GdkScreen size.

I have experimented with changing the sizing to be based on the window, but there's still width weirdness (seems like the underlying popup machinery just doesn't allow very wide popups, hence the issues when there are many tabs in a large window) and I can get the popup to break permanently if I try to use it when the window is barely on my current workspace (just a little corner is visible) :/

It would be ideal to just not use a popup for this on Wayland, just using position:fixed to center the thing in the browser window.

This is a variant of Bug 1661540. Screen sizes should be reported correctly now.
Using Firefox window size instead of screen size is not a Wayland issue so removing the tracker.
