Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020816 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020816 I like to use the old icons from Netscape 4.79 with Mozilla, and I have collected a number of them and put them into my mozilla\chrome\icons\default folder. These are all 4bpp (16 color) icons. In this build, Messenger will not start with the 4bpp icon from Netscape 4.x in the icons folder as enumerated above, or if there is no icon named "messengerWindow.ico" in the folder. In either case, it simply hangs up. Normally, it will default to the icon in Mozilla.exe if none is available in the above folder. In yesterday's and every other build of 1.0 and 1.1 I tried, my Netscape 4.x icon set works. I converted the messengerWindow icon to 8bpp, and now Mozilla starts. All of the other Mozilla components start fine with the 4bpp icon, or with none specified in chrome\icons\default. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Delete or rename the \mozilla\chrome\icons\default folder, OR replace the icons therein with 4bpp icons. 2. Try to start various Mozilla components, including messenger. 3. Messenger does not start. Actual Results: Messenger does not start. If I click on the messenger icon in my quick start toolbar on the taskbar, the splash screen comes up, but it never progresses beyond that. If I already have another Mozilla component started, of course the splash screen does not appear, but Messenger still never starts. Expected Results: It should have used the 16bpp icon specified, or if there was none available in the aforementioned folder, it should have used the main icon in Mozilla.exe. Most people will never see this bug, as they will probably use the icons supplied and never try to change or remove them.
I have to amend this one... even without changing the icons, Messenger quit starting, spontaneously. I noticed that my user.js file was being ignored (I have graphical/block quote turned off, and it started to use graphical quoting again), and when I closed Mozilla and tried to restart Messenger to see if it would obey my user.js file, it (Messenger) refused to start again. I had not changed anything in Mozilla since it last worked properly. The repeatability for this spontaneous bug is unknown-- I have been using Mozilla for the last few hours, and it worked fine most of that time. I set the severity to Normal, but it might be worse than that.
