User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:77.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/77.0
Steps to reproduce:
I can't narrow down when it's happening :( What can I do to gather hints on the matter? (what logs for example).
Actual results:
"Sometime", Firefox loose the ability to load anything. Loaded page can't refresh their content (web mail or RSS aggregator for instance) and I can't load any new page
Expected results:
I have to restart Firefox to get connection back.
Hi, geobert!
Thanks for your contribution!
I couldn't reproduce the described behavior in using the bandwidth throttling tool from Charles proxy. Are you using any proxy or VPN on your end? If you could bring any more details about your network preferences it would be great.
One thing you can do is attach the content of about:support as a txt on this thread so devs can check more detailed information.
If you still have the issue please create a new profile, you have the steps here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager
support.mozilla.orgsupport.mozilla.org
Once you have all this information, please let us know so we can continue investigating.
Regards,

Hi, thanks for your answer!
I am using a VPN but I tested without it and it happend as well.
Something must have changed since, because yesterday was free of this issue and the day before as well. I'm monitoring and was planning to close this as work for me if nothing happen until sunday :)
As for the profile, I did it and start recording when I lost the connection, but then after restarting Ffx, it could not upload it (stuck on the screen saying it tries to contact the extension)

Oh, forgot to say that I also tried with and without DNS over TLS and it happened in both cases.

We're lucky, it happened a few hours after your message :)
I also suspect the addon ClearUrls to be involved. I've turned it off 2 days ago and haven't encounter the issue. I turned it on after your message, and here we are with the issue. I hope the logs will be usefull :)

The log shows that this could be the issue related to the addon you installed.
I can see that http requests are suspended but never resumed. Could you try to disable ClearUrls and test again?
Thanks.

after a week without the ClearUrls, no issue.
I tried reenabling it, no issue. Restarted Firefox with ClearUrls enabled, few minutes later, issue. So I think it's specific to this addon or more precisely a combination involving this addon.

Nhi, do you know who to ask regarding addon issues?
Thanks.

Shane, could you please have a look to see if there's a problem in the platform, or the way the addon uses the API?

Hi Geobert,
After the restart does firefox appear to be working fine, loading new sites in new tabs, then start failing after? If you disable then enable the addon does everything start working again?

Nhi, the addon has a lot going on, I'd probably defer to the addon developers themselves to look into what is happening for sure. I've created an issue on their gitlab project.

Hi Shane,
After restarting, FFx is working fine again for some time before failing again if ClearUrls is active. I'll try disabling/enabling the addon when it happens again (just reinstalled the addon for the test).

Happened again today and tried to disable/enable ClearUrls. It tooks a few seconds before disabling occured (10ish seconds). While deactivated I tried to refresh some tabs but they were stuck in loading.
Then I tried to enable ClearUrls again, but it never showed up as enable.
After restarting Ffx, it was enable.
I never tried with a clean profile because it's such a pain to reproduce.

Shane, this bug is marked as P1/S2, but it hasn't seen any movement for 2 months. Are you still working on this, and how serious do we think this is?

I think something changed since. I've stopped using the extension, and started to use it again since yesterday. No issue so far

The bug has a release status flag that shows some version of Firefox is affected, thus it will be considered confirmed.
