huh - I had a try build that worked. Digging in to the failure, it appears my patch didn't have .cargo/config.in - that had the old rev. I'm not sure how to replicate that build failure in try, so I'll re-land given I have a plausible explanation - my apologies in advance if it gets backed out again - at which point I'll get more advice.
