Details

Whenever one wants to adjust fonts and font sizes, one has to go into prefs (1) and actively select Appearence (2) and then Fonts (3), since default is to always expand Navigator and collapse the rest. To apply changes, one has to press the OK button (4). If one wants to adjust some more, one must repeat the entire chain described. Ideally, Mozilla should remember the activity in the preferences and also which sections are expanded and collapsed respectively. Finally, there should be an Apply button to immediately commit to canges without closing the window, so that one can fine-tweak the settings. The current procedure is not only dog slow, it is also very repetitive and unsmart in nature.

Reopening. Bug 42339 takes care of the apply button, but does NOT cover state memory in preferences. BOTH are needed. Whenever I open preferences, the section Navigator is expanded and the rest collapsed. This is the least used category of all. I want Mozilla to remember what sections are expanded and collapsed, which subsection I last visited and subsequently take me there at once. That is, if I have Navigator collapsed, Advanced expanded, Provacy & Security expanded amd last vistied Cookies, Mozilla should take me to Cookies, have Navigator collapsed, Advanced expanded and Privacy & Security expanded when I go to preferences again. The current approach is an old and very bad Netscape Navigator behavior that has somehow been migrated into Mozilla. Mozilla should NOT assume that the most frequent thing I do in preferences is to change the home page.
