Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:79.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/79.0

Steps to reproduce:

On certain websites (maybe those with certain scroll handlers although I haven't been able to verify this with debugging), firefox (under Wayland only) will entirely freeze scrolling for several seconds until a right click makes the viewport instantly jump to the new scroll position. I've noticed this since at least nightly 78, and possibly 77. This can be reproduced on recent versions of WoltLab's Forum software, and is likely javascript triggered, but affects no other browser, and not nightly under X-Wayland.

Here is a link to the forum I first noticed the problem in. It happens 90% of the time under Wayland. https://sonntagshelden.de/forum/thread/5-du-bist-jetzt-ein-sonntagsheld-wer-bist-du/?postID=4969#post4969

Actual results:

The visual results of the viewport scrolling only registers when a right click or some other interruption happens, then the result is instantly shown. Almost all sites are OK, but some sites are basically crippled, wheareas other browsers and Nightly under X-Wayland scrolls on them fine.

Expected results:

Normal scroll behavior where the scrolling of the viewport is continuous.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

I'm also experiencing this or a very similar issue on some sites, notably on GitHub with https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/refined-github-/ (will report back if I can reproduce without the addon, doesn't seem to be the case so far).

I can't reproduce it on the linked page, and right-clicking does not fix it for me, but putting FF into fullscreen (and back) does.

I'm currently using Nightly 86.0a1.20210113, but have had this issue for a while (never tried on non-Nightly). I've also always had WebRender enabled, which is now no longer disabled by setting gfx.webrender.all to false, but if sbd. can tell me how to disable it I can test with that.

Which desktop / distribution do you run? I recall there was a bug in mutter/Gnome which causes that.

I'm using sway on arch linux. I've actually also created two screenshots that show that this (sometimes) only affects a certain (scrollable) part of the page, not necessarily the entire page. I don't see a way of uploading them here, so here's an imgur link instead: https://imgur.com/a/dvsI398

No longer blocks: wayland

I have not been affected by this bug in ages. As the bug opener, I believe this to be resolved.
