Background

Once upon a time, in Firefox 3, we added this feature. Then, in Firefox 31 we removed it. The original issue that caused us to remove this feature had to do with multiple installations. Now that we have per-installation profiles, this is something we should be able to re-implement.

Not allowing users to do this can be problematic for users who want to fully remove their Firefox data from a machine. While it's a potentially destructive action for users who are uninstalling to fix a problem, it's something that we should provide to users who wish to fully remove their data from a machine.

Requirements

  • Allow users to optionally remove their profile data when uninstalling Firefox using the Windows uninstaller.
  • This option should not be the default, and should be clearly marked as a potentially destructive action.

Nice to haves

  • Telemetry to track percentage of uninstalls that enable this.
