Build Date & Platform Bug Found:
Win32 commercial seamonkey build 1999-10-14-12-m11 installed on P166 Win98
Overview Description:
Regression. On win32, you can not type a dash or period in the password dialog
or mail/news profile wizard. It inputs a control characters. Any character
typed after the dash or period isn't saved to the prefs.js file. The problem
occurs on POP and IMAP.
Work around: a) If you are migrating your profile, you want to have the mail
password option checked. After migrating, edit your prefs.js and manually input
your password. b) If you are creating a new user profile, you need to edit your
prefs.js file after it is created. You need to edit the server user_prefs
statements if you use a mail account on 'nsmail-2' or 'nsmail-5'
Steps to Reproduce:
0) Removed my existing mozilla registry and user profile
1) Run 'mozilla -mail'
2) Enter a profile name or choose the default and click on the Finish button
Messenger should open and the mail wizard appears
3) Follow the mail wizard and fill in the information requested
Notice that when you enter a dash for the server name, you get a control
character or square box typed instead of the dash.
Messenger should open
4) Quit Seamonkey
5) Edit the prefs.js to change the entries that you inputed dashes and periods.
6) run 'mozilla -mail' again
Messenger should open
7) Select the inbox
8) Click on the Get Msg button (if running pop)
9) Enter your password.
It will reject your password as being incorrect.
Actual Results:
Your prefs.js file will have incomplete information for the server information.
Your password will be rejected.
Expected Results:
It should correctly display and input periods and dashs correctly.
Additional Builds and Platforms Tested On:
This problem does not occur on Mac or Linux commercial builds. I tested the
1999-10-14-12-M11 Linux and 1999-10-14-11-m11 Mac builds
Additional Information:
In previous Win32 builds, this was not a problem entering the password.

Probably an editor bug. Over to beppe.
This problem did not occur in the Win32 1999-10-13-13-m11 build migrating an
existing profile or creating a new profile.

I ran across this problem just now in the editor window and in the location
field -- I was using the 10/12/99 build on win95. I cannot enter a period,
question mark or dash.
Assigning this to Mike, and setting the priority to blocker.
mmm duh... i have no idea how to fix this. I am going to assign this to....
steve! if this was wrong steve just let me know and I will hunt down the correct
person.

windows key event handling has been greatly improved since this bug was
submitted. could you please retest? with my build (code from 2 days ago) it
works fine.
Verified on Mac as worksforme. I can not reproduce the problem on Mac using the
following build:
ftp://sweetlou/products/client/seamonkey/macos/8.x/ppc/1999-10-20-11-M11/netscape5-mac-M11.sea.bin
Will test on win32 and linux next.
Verified on win32 and linux commercial builds. I ran all of my tests under pop
and IMAP. On Mac, it works under POP and IMAP too.

I also tried it in the page composer. It appears to work fine.
Verifying bug as worksforme.
