Well this is interesting. After a recent nightly update, all characters are rendering as mojibake. Happens in a clean profile as well as existing profiles.

Setting gfx.e10s.font-list.shared=false and restarting works around the issue (though you have to "feel you way around" the about:config UI to accomplish it).
