Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.13; rv:77.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/77.0

Steps to reproduce:

We want to upgrade all maschines from FF x86 to FF x64 so we run the uninstall of FF x86 and after that the installation of FF x64

Actual results:

a new profile is created and the old one gets disabled

Expected results:

old profile should be used

OS: Unspecified → Windows 10
Hardware: Unspecified → Desktop
Version: 77 Branch → 78 Branch

Is there any way to prevent or workaround this?

Component: Untriaged → Startup and Profile System
Product: Firefox → Toolkit

Can you give some more details here, how are you performing the upgrade? Does any message show when you start Firefox? Are the old profiles still listed in about:profiles?

Yes old profiles are still there. There are no extra messages when starting Firefox. It behaves like it would when you have multiple instances installed but that’s not how I think it should work when there’s only one instance installed

Please attach a copy of profiles.ini from an affected instance and let me know the path of the old and new profile.

Also let me know how you are performing the upgrade.
