If you drag a bookmark to file:// folder, it will be gone away. Steps to reploduce. 1. Open Bookmarks manager. 2. Create a bookmark. Name is "Home directory", Location is "file:///home/hideo". 3. Drag any bookmark to "Home directory folder". 4. The bookmark is gone away. 2002082722/Linux Trunk build.
Same thing here, only with a Windows 2002082704 trunk build. Furthermore, the bookmark does not vanish completely, but only gets severely garbled. This is reproducible with every type of bookmark, not only file:// The Garbled URLs look like every second character missing. Perhaps a 16 bit vs. 8 bit problem?
Since you mention it getting "garbled" this looks like a dupe of bug 164940...
