Maybe it would be good if Mozilla took a deeper dive into this effort? It has been going on for more than 4 years and I believe uptake is very small in spite of being available in Chrome.
The core problem still remains: You can't write an application that is comparable to Apple Pay (when on the Web) using PaymentHandler:

The W3C Payment WG is nowadays rather focusing SPC which Mozilla and Apple haven't even commented on:
