(Whiteboard: [necko-triaged])
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:79.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/79.0
Steps to reproduce:
Xfinity Stream is in a Tab and I was viewing a program and I then opened a new tab and used that tab. The sound from Xfinity Stream still plays (Only two tabs open)
Actual results:
When I switched beck to the Xfinity Stream Tab (either after several seconds or several minutes) the program stops after several seconds of play the video and audio and after about 30 seconds I get this message:
This browser has paused playback.
(Error TVAPP-00282) with a resume playback option.
If I do not choose resume playback it will after 30 seconds go to the program guide screen.
Expected results:
Xfinity Stream should continue without interruption. (Windows 10 v 2004 with all released patches 24gb memory).

Is it reproducible in Chrome or other browsers? Or could it be reproduced when watching youtube? or it only happens when watching Xfinity Stream?

It is not reproachable using Firefox with YouTube in a tab as switching tabs. Chrome browser does not have any problems in playing Xfinity Stream in a tab and switching to another tab and back to Xfinity Stream.

Thank you Paul for reporting this issue.
I tried to reproduce this bug on my Mac and noticed that when I switched back to the Xfinity tab, the site immediately stopped playing the video and the page showed that I was signed out. Could you please help check whether you are signed out or not?

In my above response I should have written reproducible (I shouldn't depend on spelling checkers).
John in response to your question - Using Chrome I get the signin page only once when I initially identified myself and when I go back to using Xfinity Stream after closing Chrome and going back in I never see the signin again. With Firefox every time I go into Xfintiy Stream I see the signin page and I have to press the signin widget but then it goes directly to the program selection page without asking me to put any signin information. When the program stops it does not sign me out. After several seconds (maybe up to 30 seconds) I get an error page and asking me if I want to resume. After another 20 seconds it will go to the guide page and then to a page that state "program paused" with a widget to resume the program. I can then resume but the same thing will happen again. If I do not press the widget after 20 seconds it will go back to the guide page and the cycle again and again. After several cycle it then remains on the guide page and then goes to the signin page.

This could potentially be related to the change in SameSite cookie default behavior, which has been rolled out to 50% of the beta 79 population.
Someone who can reproduce this should look and at the following prefs in about:config
- network.cookie.sameSite.laxByDefault
- network.cookie.sameSite.noneRequiresSecure
If those are true, you have the new SameSite behavior. To verify, set those to false and see if you can reproduce.

That took care of the problem! Xfinty Stream now works properly in a tab. Also, I do not now get a login screen before I go to the Xfinity Stream site (I am already logged in with cookies).

SameSite=lax isn't riding 79 to Release, so this shouldn't affect anybody in the wild when Fx79 ships next week.

According the comment #6 and comment #7, moving this to networking:cookies is a better choice.

I cannot test this because a. I need to subscribe to the service in order to use it, b. it doesn't work on linux.
But what I see from the network requests, xinfinity.com doesn't set the sameSite attribute.
I would contact them to see if they can change their cookie policy.

I've already contacted our Comcast friends about this, waiting for a reply.

I downloaded and installed the release version of Firefox 79. Before I installed it I reverted the about:config changes back to the way it caused problems playing Xfinity Stream and I confirmed the beta version had the problem. After installing the release version I found the problem play Xfinity Stream was still happening. I would have hoped The the release version would have corrected the problem. This problem is either in the release version or just does not correct the 50% of the beta downloads that had this test.

Hi Paul,
I'm wondering if you still see this at all. We've reverted this change so that the sameSite=lax change not in release or Beta, and is only in our Nightly build at this point. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I checked the settings for
network.cookie.sameSite.laxByDefault
network.cookie.sameSite.noneRequiresSecure
and they are at the default settings - false.
I have had no problems with using Xfinity Stream.

XFinity Streams works for me in FIrefox Nightly 93 with network.cookie.sameSite.laxByDefault and network.cookie.sameSite.noneRequiresSecure set to true (the nightly defaults).

WFM, and Chrome has been shipping this feature for a year now (they hadn't yet when the bug was first filed). I'm sure XFinity fixed this.
