I cannot reply to certain email messages, getting an error message like the following when I try to send a reply: -------------------------------------------------- "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: not local host chem.harvard.edu, not a gateway . Please check the message recipients and try again." -------------------------------------------------- The error msg above was from attempting to reply to a message that had the following headers: -------------------------------------------------- From - Thu Aug 29 09:53:05 2002 X-UIDL: <1020829034340.4060@stl0srv14.mail.mel.aone.net.au> X-Mozilla-Status: 0001 X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 Return-Path: <mini-air@chem.harvard.edu> Received: from chem.harvard.edu ([128.103.96.254]) by mta03.mail.mel.aone.net.au with ESMTP id <20020828174339.ZTXO10708.mta03.mail.mel.aone.net.au@chem.harvard.edu>; Thu, 29 Aug 2002 03:43:39 +1000 Received: from chem (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by chem.harvard.edu (8.12.2/8.12.2) with SMTP id g7SHgrKp025126; Wed, 28 Aug 2002 13:42:53 -0400 (EDT) Date: Wed, 28 Aug 2002 13:42:53 -0400 (EDT) Message-Id: <200208281523.g7SFN3s4013293@chem2.harvard.edu> Errors-To: marca@chem2.harvard.edu Reply-To: mini-air@chem.harvard.edu Originator: mini-air@air.harvard.edu Sender: mini-air@chem.harvard.edu Precedence: bulk From: Marc Abrahams <marca@chem2.harvard.edu> To: Multiple recipients of list MINI-AIR <mini-air@chem.harvard.edu> Subject: mini-AIR Aug 2002 - Surgical Check / Bee Beality X-Listprocessor-Version: 6.0d -- ListProcessor by Anastasios Kotsikonas -------------------------------------------------- But while this message has 'localhost' in it's Received From header, not all of the msgs I've had this problem with have the same... I don't think. But at the moment for the life of me I can't find other msgs with this problem to confirm that, sorry! Will post more headers as I come across them (if it helps..?) Karen
I think now this is possibly to do with the fact I've got multiple SMTP servers set up. (Albeit not intentionally - the number of servers listed in the Advanced window of the Outgoing Servers tab seems to increase with each new email account I set up.) I recently discovered this, then deleted some of the listings thinking I was only meant to have one outgoing server.. which screwed up the sending for some accounts until I manually added some of the servers back in. I've just done a hunt in the database & think this is possibly indirectly related to bug 96207, bug 119609, etc?
