Details
Recently I have lost the ability to use my back button. I now have to open every
link within a new tab because I can't go back. How do I resolve this?

did you install a newer build over an older build? If so, this is
a duplicate of bug compreg.dat (bug 126826)
can you open the pref.js file in your Mozilla profile directory in
a text editor and see if you can find this entry:
user_pref("browser.sessionhistory.max_entries", 1)
If so, this is a duplicate of bug back/forward (bug 162593)
Also, please give us your build ID.

correction, should be "Prefs.js"
and bug compreg.dat is alias of bug 162593
and bug back/forward is alias of bug 126826, not the other way around.
