User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0
Steps to reproduce:
after bug on centos7 (kernel 3.10.0-1127.18.2 / grub 2-2.02-0.86 break UEFI boot),
I format my machine and I took the opportunity to switch to centos8.
I do this on different system regularly (windows10 / CentOS) without any problem.
Actual results:
after trying to reconnect to Firefox sync, my password kept by my password manager (keepass) was rejected. so i reset Firefox sync password successfully.
and Firefox sync, did not restore my synchronized data (bookmarks and passwords)
Expected results:
after resetting my Firefox sync password, I should have recovered my saved bookmarks and passwords

Hi there, I'm sorry you experienced this. Firefox Sync encrypts all your data with a key that's derived from your password. This makes it impossible for anyone else, including Mozilla, to access your synced data—but comes with a pretty nasty side effect: resetting your password makes it impossible to access your existing data.
We're thinking of ways to make this better over in bug 1600212, but I know that's a small consolation for losing your bookmarks and passwords. Is there any chance you have a backup of your old Firefox profile, either from your old system or another device? If so, you could try restoring the database files, or signing back into Sync on all your devices.
Unfortunately, I don't think there's much we can do now. I'll go ahead and close this as RESOLVED
/INVALID
, not because your report is invalid (it's completely valid and understandable!), but because Sync is "working as designed," even though it's not what folks might actually expect. 😕

Hello, thank you for your response. Unfortunately, there are no other machines logged into this account, and the system in question has been formatted. No possibility to access any profile
we were hoping that Mozilla could eventually transfer our data to us, even if it is encrypted.
in this case, we could have seen with our old password to attempt a restore. Thanking you

we were hoping that Mozilla could eventually transfer our data to us, even if it is encrypted.
I'm afraid this isn't possible, after a password reset our systems delete any data that was encrypted using the previous password.
