Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:82.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/82.0

Steps to reproduce:

  • enabled gfx.webrender.software and gfx.webrender.all
  • scrolled through my facebook news feed

Actual results:

scrolling was slow and felt "laggy" on my Core i5 540m

Profile with "Webrender (Software)": https://share.firefox.dev/2EKrkQW
Profile with "Basic": https://share.firefox.dev/2DejtuD

Expected results:

scrolling should be at least as smooth as the old "Basic" software rendering implementation.

forgot to mention, this happens with the new react-based facebook client which is gradually rolled out currently.

Is performance still an issue here with latest nightly?

Just tested facebook on another machine (dual-core athlon x2 240) and although webrender sofware still feels slower / jerky than "basic" software rendering it is far more useable, also for the case described in this bug report (scrolling in facebook).
