Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de-AT; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020529

refuses to handle files of type application/tex internally and asks for an
application instead. Since files of type application/tex are ASCII files, surely
these could (and IMHO should) be handled by Mozilla internally?

No, that would be text/tex or text/plain. If the mime type is 'application', and
Mozilla doesn't know that tex is actually an ASCII protocol, it will try to save
it to the disk first.

The web server is an apache with more or less default installation (at least
regarding mime types). It seems application/x-tex is the default type for tex files.

Is there any way to configure the client to display files of type
application/x-tex internally?

text/tex is also not handled internally. :-(
