Ubuntu 18.04

Double Escape key on search mode shows blank megabar link

steps to reproduce
-go to www.cnn.com
-Click on megabar, type any word
-Select a one-off like Bing
-Press Escape key Once > suggestion panel is closed
-Press EScape key Once more

actual result
address bar is blank.

expected result
"Search Mode" for Amazon is removed. b) search terms are also removed. c) https://edition.cnn.com/ is showing up in url bar.""

notes: I need to click escape key a third time in order to see https://edition.cnn.com in the url bar
