Thunderbird 81.0b3 (64bit) Mac

In the account settings for Feed Reader type accounts, there is a preference titled "Show the article summary instead of loading the web page".

This setting also exists in the Subscribe dialog for each feed.

Based on the verbiage, the one in Account Settings is a default, and one in the Subscribe dialog is the one actually used on the feed.

This setting appears to be completely ignored. The message pane always shows the summary, regardless of this setting, and opening the item in a new tab always shows the webpage.

In Account Settings, it plainly states Default Settings for New Feeds.

Please read the guide in the Learn More link.

Please re-read my description. I said that. The preference in the feed itself is getting ignored, too.

Did you read the part in the guide about the global preference and did you check it?

Did you read the part in the guide about the global preference and did you check it?

rss.show.content-base in about:config (as described in that guide) works.

Which validates this as an actual bug, because the feed settings purport to override that and don't.
If those settings don't actually work, they should go away.

Your STR and description is confusing and you haven't understood the nuances between selecting a message and opening a message.

  1. The Account Settings options are irrelevant to an existing feed.
  2. Your screenshot shows the folder in Subscribe with option "Show article summary" checked, ergo, on selecting a message in that folder, you will see the summary.
  3. The View->Feed Message Body selection is a global override that takes precedence over an individual feed setting when selecting a message.
  4. The Message-> When Opening Feed Messages selection is a global behavior when opening a message (double click or contextmenu or enter - and enter is a summary/web page toggle special to feeds). A decade or so ago the resident UX person advised any individual feed granularity regarding opening a message would be option overkill.

There is no bug; it works as designed and for a very long time.
