User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/85.0.4183.121 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Create a News and Feeds account. Add some subscriptions.

Create a search folder called 'unread' of unread messages, i.e. searching on status not equal to read.

View the unread folder and type a search term into the search box to limit articles to those whose subject line contains the term.

Remove the search term by clicking on the sweeping brush icon.

Select the email Inbox.

Actual results:

After a pause, the News and Feed subjects from the unread folder are displayed in the place where Inbox email subjects should be displayed.

Expected results:

Email Inbox subjects should have been displayed.

This happens in 2.53.4 but has happened in previous, possibly for years.

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 SeaMonkey/2.53.4

I don't understand the report. I tried to reproduce (without exactly knowing WHAT I schould reproduce), did not see anything unexpected with using Search Folders in my exisiting "Blogs & News-Feeds" Account with installation of unofficial (by wg9s) De SeaMonkey 2.53.5 beta 1 pre Mozilla/5.0 (NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 Build 20200901210005 (Newly created User Profile Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit

How do I make the report more understandable?

I see I did not mention that you should already have an email account. So, to reproduce you need an email account and a News&Feeds account.

What happens is when the Inbox folder is selected, what is displayed is not a list of emails, but a list of news&feed items from the news&feed search folder.

I am adding this attachment. This shows on the right news articles containing the word "virus" whereas it should show my emails.

I even don't understand the Summary. For me an email is message sent from 1 person to an other person using an SMTP server.

@reporter
what do you really want to tell?
And screenshot tells nothing to me

That is correct. Email is sent from one person to another. That is why it is not correct to see News Feed articles in the email Inbox.

I thought the expected results and actual results explained it. What I see is News Feed articles in my email Inbox. They are not supposed to be there. But they are not really there, it is a temporary display problem. They are only displayed there, they have not gone into the email.

I am trying to make it understandable. It is not easy. I have changed the summary line.

Summary: news feed displayed in email → news feed subject lines are incorrectly displayed in a place where email subject lines are supposed to be displayed

The layout that I am using is 'classic view'. There is a message pane, a thread pane, and a folder pane. The folder pane is on the left, and the thread pane is on the right above the message pane.

So what I see when I select 'Inbox' in the folder pane, is the subject line from News & Feeds articles in the thread pane, whereas I should see email threads, i.e. subject lines.

In the picture notice what is on the left is "Inbox" selected for email, but what is on the right is News articles. These were not emailed to me, they should not be there. They are from the news and feeds search folder which I created.

Thx, I'm are coming closer to understanding. Please keep in mind that Experience, point of view and English Language knowledge of users here in Bugzilla are is widely spread ... That sometimes makes it difficult to understand exactl ...

Do you think that that problem might be reproducible in an existing User Profile which has been used for years? I can't remember to have seen something like you experience. Can you give a hint in which of my 8 email accounts I should search for upcoming results from a Search Result Folder of one of my 30 feeds?

Or is it more target orientated to start with a new User Profile?

Summary: news feed subject lines are incorrectly displayed in a place where email subject lines are supposed to be displayed → NEWS FEED subject lines are incorrectly displayed in a place where EMAIL subject lines are supposed to be displayed

I have been using this profile for years, or at least for a very long time. But your question suggests you haven't quite understood what I am doing. You say "which of my 8 email accounts I should search". It is not necessary to search in an email account. What you have to do is search in a "search folder". The search folder is a virtual folder. So to begin, do a search on News and Feeds, i.e. select the "Blogs & News Feeds" (I've been calling it news & feeds incorrectly, sorry) right click on "Blogs & News Feeds" in the folder pane, and select "search messages" which opens a dialog. This then allows you to search for unread articles in "Blogs & News Feeds", and then you can save the results as a search folder, using the button "save as search folder". This folder then appears like a news feed in the folder pane. You then select this news feed, which I called "unread", and do a search on it using the simple search box in the tool bar above the message pain. The toolbar contains the faded text "search subject or address". If you put in a search term it filters the list of news articles. Having done this, then remove the term from the simple search, and then click on an email folder in the folder pain. I have tried it on several different ones all with the same results, I have tried gmail, aol, gmx. They are all IMAP accounts. Having selected the folder, after a short pause, all the email subjects are replaced with the filtered subject lines from the Blogs and News Feeds search folder.

In summary, you are doing a search on a search, for example I am searching for all unread Blog and News Feed articles, saving it as a search folder called "unread" and then I am searching those results in that folder for any which contain the word "virus" using the simple search box in the toolbar.

@Reoprter:
yo can be sure, I know what a search folder is. An what an inbox is. And so on.
But you did not answer to my question which of my email accounts inbox might show the messages from the search results subfolder of a particular subscription of the Blogs & News-Feeds folder

I said "I have tried it on several different ones all with the same results," i.e. any of your email accounts for which you select the Inbox in the folder pane.

Yeahh confirmed with 2.53.6b1 pre Windows x64 en-US. Interesting bug :)
