Mozilla 1.1 browser hangs at startup everytime it is started. Mail and Calendar does start, however. If the file XUL.mfl is removed, Mozilla browser will start again, but when browser is restarted it always hangs again. I am using the Pinball theme, Calendar, Googlebar, QLookup and RadialContext. Windows 2000, Service Pack 2 Mozilla 1.1 for Windows
Remove pinball theme and all your problem should be gone :-) Is there a "certified working" version of Pinball with 1.1 ? ;-)
Uninstalled Pinball theme, now using classic but the problem remains. Just need to start browser, see that the XUL.mlf file is created and then exit and restart. Browser freezes on splash screen.
Try with a blank new profile ?
Removed the Application Data/Mozilla folder. Created a new empty profile using Profile manager. Started Mozilla (showing Mozilla default homepage) and exit. Started Mozilla again and it freezes on splash screen. Mail and calendar still works. Killed mozilla process. Removed XUL.mlf and restarted mozilla and it works.
So, if I read well, the bug is now gone ? So, this bug can be closed ?
No, bug still exist, but I can use mozilla if the XUL.mlf file is removed before I start mozilla. XUL.mlf seem to be corrupt in some way. I can, however, start mail and calendar even if XUL.mlf is not removed.
Looks like a problem of compatibility with your theme. You should try to do a backup of your profile, uninstall mozilla (removing mozver.dat and mozuninst.exe from \winnt folder), make a clean install, and creating a new profile (without pinball theme), and grabbing back all your old datas. If you do so, is the bug still alive or not ?
Finally... I could not unintstall mozilla at first, got this error: 0: Uninstal log folder not found: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\mozilla.org\1.1(en)\Uninstall\Uninstall Log Folders The registry key did not exist. After some manual hands-on I was able to do a uninstall and could also successfully install mozilla again. See attachement for procedure for doing this. It seems as if installation of mozilla 1.1 was broken, possibly because of earlier installed versions (0.9.9 and 1.0). Now everything works and I beleive we can close the bug, since it is probably due to problems in earlier versions of mozilla. Thanks a lot for your help.
Following comment #9, closing this bug as WFM If you want to clean-up your registry, just try JV16 PowerTools (http://www.jv16.org/) Happy I can help :-)
