If you copy multiline text from certain webpages or documents that begin with a
newline, and paste the text into the subject line, the subject line shown in the
subject box only shows the last line, although the subject actually contains the
entire multiline text. The whole multiline text appears in the bar above the menu.
After the message is sent:
1) a subject line that does not look like the intended subject line
2) text of the multiline message is now part of the composition
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch messenger
2. Create a new message (my format option is plain text)
3. In a navagator window, browse to:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201719347/
And copy the title of the book by pointing mouse in the white space above the
search box and dragging over the title of the book. Note that text along both
sides of the page are also highlighted.
4. Paste this text into the subject box.
5. You can view the contents of each line of the subject by using the up/down
arrow keys.
6. Add some text to the composition.
7. Send the message
Actual Results:
After the message is sent:
1) a subject line that does not look like the intended subject line
2) text of the multiline paste is now part of the composition
Expected Results:
Mozilla should have converted the newlines in the paste to spaces and pasted the
result into the subject box.

Easier way to reproduce the text to paste into the subject:
1) use notepad or a text editor
2) start with creating a new line (empty paragraph)
3) create several lines of text separated by newlines after the empty paragraph.
4) copy the text, starting with the newline and ending with the last line.
5) paste the text into the subject line.

Reproduceable on Chinese WinXP using 2002091608 build

In build 20020913 with Debian(package ver 1.1-1) Linux you can press the up and
down arrows to see the different lines that are in the subject line, but there
is no indication that there is more than one line available.
Also, the subject contents shown in the title bar is mangled. It looks like it
is showing the bottom of one line, and the top of another line, but you only see
part of each line.

Steve Karg, is this bug still an issue for you? I just tried it with 1.3 and it
appears that now, only the first line of the clipboard is being pasted into the
Subject field.

I tested this problem in 1.4b and Mozilla only pastes the first line of the
clipboard into the subject field. That is acceptable to me, so I will close
this bug and mark as fixed.

=>WFM per reporter's comment 5.
Steve, "Fixed" is only used if a patch is specifically entered for the bug.
