After setting a filter to sort different classes of mail into different folder,
The user may want to set a specific reply-to email address for each folder.
For example, I work maintaining the audio-video.gnu.org web site. I filter mail
to a specific folder based on the to: header. If I reply to an incoming message
in the folder, I would like the reply-to: and from: address to automatically be
set to an address I have assigned to the folder.
There is currently a method of doing this in Mozilla, but is rather inelegant
and leads to other problems. The method is to set up a mail account for each
reply-to address I require then filter incoming mail in one account to folders
in other accounts. When you have 7 or 8 unique addresses you want your mail
replied to, this gets very messy. 7 trash folders, 7 sent folders 7 templates, 7
drafts etc. A long list of redundant folders in the left panel fragmenting
locality of stored data.
I suggest adding a property field to each folder, in a similar way to the
character coding field. This property should carry the default from: header for
emails replied in the folder. If this field is empty, then the default account
address is used.
This is widely recognised as an important feature and has been implemented in
various email clients both free and non-free. Sylpheed, for example.
