The fact that the article shows up after a refresh seems like a bug.
A user who clicks the reader mode button before the banners show up might be very confused by the fact that it's not working - and might not think to refresh.

Same thing here, but much easier to reproduce:

Wait for cookie banner to show up. Click reader-mode button. Cookie message is turned into reader format. Refresh. Correct text shows up.

Apologies for the lack of updates here; I'm swamped with bookmarks project work ( bug 1665353 ). I'll try to have a look at this next week.

I don't think this is urgent. But it's an improvement that might help a bunch of people not have to click the "accept all" cookie banner. Time saver.
