Gnome-only, because

  • on other desktop environments you need to enable "Force Composition Pipeline" in Nvidia settings to not experience choppy OpenGL.
  • KDE with disabled compositing is affected by bug 1663273.

Known bugs

  • Chrome is likewise affected by glitches after suspend/resume. According to the manual, users or distributions need to enable a specific systemd service: bug 1515253 comment 18
  • bug 1631353
  • Performance problem with multiple windows: bug 1659848 / bug 1655241 / bug 1667165 (Overall performance is still better than software rendering.)

Recent drivers (~460.32.03) resolved startup issues reported around our device reset handling.

Summary: Enable WebRender by default on Nightly on Gnome with proprietary Nvidia driver >= 455.28 → Enable WebRender by default on Nightly on Gnome with proprietary Nvidia driver >= 460.32.03
Severity: -- → S4
Priority: -- → P3

I think we can turn this on in nightly soon, waiting for bug 1678044 to be resolved so we can expand the SW-WR population in nightly before taking NVIDIA binary driver users out of that group.

llvmpipe users are now using SW-WR.
