Running Chimera 0.5, OS X 10.2 6C115. Datek Streamer, Island Book Viewer, etc
don't start. The windows that the Java apps should start in don't even pop up
when you select them from the pull down menus. I've verified that I have
user_pref("dom.disable_open_during_load", false); set in prefs.js. This
wouldn't work in 0.4 either but I figured it had something to do with the Java
weirdness that's been fixed in 0.5.
Update: Just now I was able to get the Streamer Console to work and get the
Streamer app to run, however the Island Book Viewer application (Resources
pulldown menu) still does nothing. Very odd.
Sam, does it work using Mozilla? (Since you're using 10.2, be sure to use a
Mozilla newer than 1.1.)
I will take a look and see. BTW, now the Streamer doesn't start again in
Chimera 0.5. Seems to be an intermittant thing.
I'd be really surprised if it did. Datek has a long history of claiming that
their tools are not supported on the Macintosh. :(
Actually, Streamer and Island Book Viewer both work as of about two months ago,
at least in IE 5.0.

I tried this in Mozilla 1.1 downloaded from www.mozilla.org and here's what I
found. Running the Streamer from the pull down menus actually pops up the
Streamer window where it begins to start loading the Java. The browser then
crashes with a:

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000034

But, it seems to get further than Chimera.

I then tried to launch the Island Book Viewer from the pulldown menus. It
popped up the HTML window that asks if you want to use the Java or HTML version.
Chimera doesn't even get this window popped up so this doesn't even look like a
Java problem. If I go to run the Java version of Island Book Viewer the browser
crashes in the same manner as above.

I will attach the crash logs from above to this bug.
Attached file Mozilla 1.1 crash log
Crash log when attempting to run Java Streamer applet and Java Island Book
Viewer applet from www.datek.com in Mozilla 1.1.
This crash is expected. Java does not work in mozilla 1.1 under Mac OS 10.2 (bug
154699), the applet will crash on instantiation.

The Datek applets likely use https. That would be bug 57491.
OK ignore the Mozilla crash as noise. In any case, it looks like the popup
stuff isn't working properly. I don't know if that has anything to do with Java
specifically. Chimera can't even get to the point of deciding whether it should
crash or not here.
mmm, looks like I have to be a datek customer for this. Blargh
Let me check and see if my non-trading Streamer only account can be modified so
as to not give away piles of personal information.
Don't worry about it. I'm a Datek customer... for all the good that did me the
last time I tried to tell them what was wrong with their applets...
