Sounds like you are using an outdated version of Firefox for Android. The current version doesn't support the downloads
API yet.

Yes, the version is as shown. Unfortunately most add-ons are not available using the latest version... :(

Hello,
I believe I managed to partially reproduce the issue on Firefox for Android (68.0) using an add-on called Download (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/download-addon/). I’ve attempted to download several videos from YouTube, both with “=” in the name and without.
Without the “=” in the filename, the pop-up provided by the add-on (when tapping on the download button) works fine and the file is downloaded when selecting the desired format (several buttons allows the user to select different formats and bit rates from the pop-up).
With the “=” in the filename, tapping the desired format buttons does nothing. The file is not downloaded. No errors are displayed though.
With the newest versions of Firefox for Android, as per Comment 1, the API is not supported yet.

Fennec development has been frozen; it is not supported any more and won't get code updates.
The downloads
API in Fenix is being developed in bug 1538348.
