User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020909 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020909 After browsing around a while, I find coming back to this cnn web page won't work anymore. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open the web page, then browse elsewhere. 2.After half an hour or later in day, try to reload it. 3.Don't close and reopen your browser during this time period. Actual Results: Page shows half bar loading, but actually nothing has loaded and it will stay that way. This bug must say something more general about something not functioning on web pages in general, but I couldn't say what.

I am sorry I reported this bug twice (this was the second one) but no one is paying attention to it. There's no question that this is a very real problem Mozilla has. I doubt it would only apply to this web page, but I don't know. Anyway, new profile or not, this bug can be reproduced in the last few months of builds, though not everyone will immediately notice it. Please can we take a fresh look at this? Thanks.
Could not reproduce 1. Loaded up mozilla to slashdot (of course) 2. Looked up this bug on bugzilla 3. Opened up a new tab for the URL under suspicion (~12:15pm) [http://money.cnn.com/markets/morning_call/] 4. Noticed at 1:15pm that browser had redirected to [http://money.cnn.com/] 5. Re-entered URL [http://money.cnn.com/markets/morning_call/] 6. Still works... Maybe they are redirecting back to [http://money.cnn.com/markets/morning_call/] to help mask the bug now? JOhn
I'm sorry...I really haven't stated clearly how this bug appears. If one opens the browser and starts using it for a bit on other sites, it may or may not work at the stated CNN url the first time. If going to the url is the first thing one does without any pause, it should always work or if it is done very soon, it has a very high chance of working. Regardless of how much the browser is being use, a little later (and it could be a few minutes or hours), the page will more likely than not be unable to load at all, and the status bar will normally show 1/2 the way full right after it starts trying to contact the site. Leaving it on the page itself doesn't relate to my bug report...I am not sure how this changes the likelihood. But the redirection that the page does is completely unrelated...it's simply something they do so that you look at more of what's going on in CNN-ville. The page becomes unable to load with almost 100% probability if I have had my browser open for a few hours, used or unused at other web sites. But if one closes Mozilla completely and restarts it, it is back to working fine.
Summary: Will load initially but after Moz open a random while it won't load again → Will load initially but not after browser been running long enough
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020910 Well, I tried and I tried to reproduce this bug. I have hit over 300 sites while mozilla was open throught the course of the last six hours and nothing. Perhaps my use of tabs was not wise since it kinda spawns a new browser, but I hit everything pretty hard. Are you sure you are running a recent build? I even tried an older Moz 1.2a (not nightly) build and could not reproduce the error on morning call page. 1. Opened moz 2. used Chofmann's Browser Buster to stress moz 3. 300 sites later.... morning call still loads JOhn
John, This is very strange since at least one other person did report the behavior. Also, I am very meticulous about getting rid of everything when I install another build (using the zipped file). Okay, the only thing I've learned since I spoke with you last was that the CNN Morning Call page will never load if I start using the browser and do not go to the web site quite early in the session. I might have stated that in so many words in my last message. But also, to follow up on what you say, I can tell you I almost never use more than one browser window--instead I just use tabs for almost everything. I just tried out a brand new window while running my current Mozilla session (open a few hours), and that doesn't allow me to load that page either. Finally let me add that I run Tabbrowser Extensions which gives all kinds of customization to the tabs. If it causes problems, I would be very surprised given how solid it's appeared so far. Next time I install a new build I will experiment with Mozilla that doesn't have Tabbrowser Extensions installed (it's always the first thing I install after putting the latest build on my PC). I *do* keep very up-to-date with builds, so that isn't the problem. Thanks a lot for the follow-up!
I have now confirmed this bug on another computer which also runs W2K and has a build from 2 days ago. It seems that if I didn't go to the Morning Call page very soon after opening the browser, it cannot load the page anymore. And I am sure that it has everything to do with Mozilla and never anything to do with that particular page's server. Obviously it must have something to do with the way the page is coded though.
I have "solved" this problem with Mozilla by replacing the one piece of Mozilla that I never touch-- the Plugins folder. I was wiping the profile and everything else. I basically just copied the Plugins folder from my Netscape 7 installation which was older, and that folder has all the main plugins, so I'm not sure yet what was causing the problem or if a file was corrupted.
