Steps to reproduce:
try to visit http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/ with HTTPS only mode enabled. Reach another web site with https://www.sumoforum.net
Turn off HTTPS for this site. Try to visit http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/ but it is still converted to https: and not found.
Actual results:
Try to visit http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/ but it is still converted to https: and not found. http://www.sumoforum.net converts to https and reaches a strange site.

Note that the https everywhere add-on works correctly once this site is listed at http.

Hey Marc,
I tried reproducing this issue on the latest versions of Firefox Nightly 85.0a1 (2020-11-24) , beta 84.0b4 and release 83.0 and the redirection was indeed to a site with a domain that's not been configured for use. This behaviour is the same for Chrome as well so I do not believe this is a Firefox specific behaviour. Can you cross-check with other browsers?

If you turn off HTTPS it works correctly in Chrome and in Firefox. Only with HTTPS only turned on does it go to the bogus https site or to 404 not found. Firefox is trying https even though it is turned off. I suspect your exception list only allows http after an https failure, rather than skipping https altogether.

Hi Marc, thanks for reporting your issue!
I have trouble replicating what you're describing though.
What I did:
- Navigated to http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/
- Clicked on "Continue to HTTP Site"-button
- http://www.sumoforum.net/forums/ successfully loaded with HTTP
- Navigated to http://www.sumoforum.net
- http://www.sumoforum.net successfully loaded with HTTP
Did I do something wrong or did the issue get resolved by the website administrators maybe?

I tried in a clean profile and did not get the failure. Whatever caused it has gone away but I had to use "forget about this site" in my normal profile to clean up the problem. So something did go wrong but I can't reproduce it.
I can't close this - my only choices are invalid and duplicate - works for me is gone. Should I have used invalid?
