RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 417942

People

(Reporter: bugzil.la, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Inposhibiru/0.25 (Do you really need to show whis information, if I report Thunderbird problem?)

Steps to reproduce:

I have sent standard e-mail. Thunderbird 78.5.0 ESR.

Actual results:

In SMTP logs I see my LOCAL WAN IP Why Thunderbird sends my LOCAL IP instead of "Mozilla" string?
My WAN IP leaked.

Expected results:

If here is needed IP, the IP shall be spoofed, for example with value 192.168.0.1
I found, many people have the problem.
Workaround is:
Config Editor: mail.smtpserver.default.hello_argument=10.0.0.1

If here is not needed IP, you can put for example "Mozilla".

Why doesn't Mozilla Thunderbird inform me that my local IP will be sent?

Please correct "WAN UP" -> "LAN IP". Why I cannot edit me report?

Summary: Local WAN IP in HELO/EHLO command → LAN IP in HELO/EHLO command
Component: Security → Networking: SMTP
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core

While a fake HELO/EHLO hostname could work in some cases, many times SMTP servers would not accept that. It's part of the protocol, and it's supposed to send the hostname/IP. Anyway, it's your own SMTP server so hard to see how it would be a concern that it sees what IP is connecting from. In fact, it of course sees the IP that is connecting to it anyway.
