User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:83.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/83.0
Steps to reproduce:
I've just updated Firefox to 83.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 20.04 (not sure what the previous version was, 80, or later), and now I no longer see the 3D button.
Actual results:
If I try to force it by navigating to https://www.google.com/maps?force=webgl, Maps says "We’re sorry, only the lite mode of the new Google Maps is available at this time."
Expected results:
I'm not the only one - https://support.google.com/maps/thread/85212164?hl=en
3D Maps works fine in Chromium Version 87.0.4280.66 (Official Build) (64-bit).

You have a very old graphics card and your driver is blocked because of crashes. Seems like there is still a better driver available: https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-hd/amd-radeon-hd-6000-series/amd-radeon-hd-6450
I am not sure why WebGL stopped working now however. Someone from the graphics team would need to answer that.

old but silent! Doesn't have a fan, and I need silence for recording audio in a DAW.

OK, I installed the driver update, and WebGL is working again in Firefox. I don't care about Edge or Chrome... :-)
So this is fixed for me (for now?)
Many thanks

Marking as duplicate. I don't think having this extra bug is helpful, the issue seems to be the same.
