RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1637681

People

(Reporter: bugzilla_admin, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:83.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/83.0

Steps to reproduce:

I think that traditional zoom (Ctrl+wheel or Ctrl+plus) can be useful in some cases, but APZ is more useful for a lot of cases. For example, if I want to zoom into the live chat window on the top-right on YouTube because the font is too small, using the traditional zoom is very slow and difficult to get the zoom-level I want. With APZ it is easy and fast.

Actual results:

Currently, it seems that APZ is only invokable with a touchpad or a touch screen.

Expected results:

Correct me if I am wrong, but there is no technical reason why APZ cannot work on a computer without a touchpad, is there? If Ctrl+wheel does the traditional zoom, how about using something like Ctrl+Shift+wheel/Ctrl+Alt+plus for APZ, zooming in/out at the position where the mouse cursor currently is.

Bugbug thinks this bug should belong to this component, but please revert this change in case of error.

Component: Untriaged → Panning and Zooming
Product: Firefox → Core

We are planning to hook up desktop zooming to mousewheel + modifier key (the modifier is to be decided, but it will be customizable). This is tracked in bug 1637681.
