After beta version has upgraded from 84 to 85, Firefox is unable to play videos (tried on YouTube, newspaper websites, other web samples, etc.)
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:85.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/85.0
For example, if I open this video on YouTube
(sorry, probably pressed the wrong button)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stlKHh_f0-0
the Web Console gives this error

So it seems that Firefox is unable to detect installed codecs.
Thanks for your attention

Can you go to about:support, "Copy text to clipboard", and attach the text to this bug?
Sorry, I'm afraid I cannot for privacy reasons. If you need a particular subset of that information, let me know.
Important modified preferences would be useful, and if you want to restrict it to a subset of those, just those starting with media
is a good place to start.
Could you navigate to about:config
and see if setting the media.rdd-process.enabled
to false has any impact on the problem?
Hi, I've rebooted the PC and the problem apparently has been solved.
I will check with the other user that has reported it in the Italian support forum and will let you know.
I think that it's the first time that Firefox is behaving this way in 15 years of use.
Thanks.
We've got some similar reports, so it would still be useful for us if you're willing to share that pref information. Could you let me know if you're running Windows N too?
No, I'm using Windows 10 build 1809. The other user has Windows 10 build 20H2.
This morning I've also checked the media.rdd* preferences and they were all set to true. I didn't change anything in the configuration (except for turning off hardware acceleration) and tried with another profile (a test profile with almost all the options set to the default).
Tried also with ESR, release and Nightly: all of them newly-updated and no problem found with the same videos.
Tried a few minutes ago with media.rdd-process.enabled set to false and no problem found (that is, videos are played normally)

I had the same problem as the OP. Tested if the problem was caused by addons or if it was a problem with hardware video decoding, but no luck. Set 'media.rdd-process.enabled' to false, and everything works as it should. It was set to true by default.
Im using Windows 10 20H2. I can do some tests

Are you using Windows 10 N Edition?
Can you please tell us at least what your graphic card is?
without about:support we can't do much to troubleshoot this problem.
There's nothing in there that reveal any private information, all we need is the Graphics section and the modified preferences.
Did you try with a clean profile?
thanks

(In reply to Jean-Yves Avenard [:jya] from comment #10)

username and installation path are indeed personal information, at least for me.
Anyway: I'm not using Windows N version and yes I've tried with another profile.
I've solved the problem rebooting the PC but I'll upload the requested information about graphics and modified preferences.

Are you running an antivirus other than Microsoft Defender?

Yes, I am using Symantec Endpoint Protection but, as I've said before, I got the problem solved rebooting the PC.
