When opening the preferences dialog, Mozilla tells X that the window is transient, and gives it a size. A number of window managers will then take that size, create a window, and not allow a user to change it. This only is an issue because the preference box is the wrong size for some of the dialogs (depending on the font) and some of the options/buttons become unreadable (pushed off the edge of the window). This is especially an issue with the the "history," "helper applications," and "cache" dialogs. This is not a really new issue; it goes back to at least Mozilla 1.0. To reproduce: 1. Change default fonts to something a little wider (verdana, for example). I believe that this is controled by gtk. 2. Open Mozilla 3. Open Edit->Preferences->Navigator->Helper Applications Actual result: buttons are not all in the window, buttons are cut off Expected result: window should be the right size to include the entire button
Summary: Transient preference window the worng size → Transient preference window the wrong size
Maybe I wasn't too clear about the problem. It's on 1.2a (pulled from CVS) and compiled on linux. The attatched shot shows the dialog for Preferences -> Helper Applications. Notice the three buttons on the right hand side and how they are cut off. This isn't really a show stopping bug, but something that could turn off other, less tolerant users.
