As part of the Proton redesign, we would like to group container tabs together in what will appear as a single tab. Clicking on the tab would switch to the selected tab in the group and reveal a dropdown to select from other tabs in the group. This will help to group all tabs of a container together.
Still need to figure out:

  • Searching? Dealing with lots of tabs in the group?
  • Is the group draggable?
  • Can you close all the tabs in the group?
** Is all this in the context menu of the group? Same for mute all, etc

Very curious about this new feature! The key for its success will be
(a) the effortlessness of switching between tabs in a group, and
(b) the ease of finding tabs within a group IMHO.

I think the grouping of container tabs should be an optional feature? Some users already use other solutions for grouping tabs, not necessarily based on containers (see for example the excellent "Simple Tab Groups" add-on), and you don't want this feature to interfere with that. Other users may not want to have their container tabs grouped?
