[Prerequisites]:

  • Have a new Firefox profile.
  • Have the browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.newNewtabExperience.enabled pref set to true.

[Steps to reproduce]:

  1. Open the browser with the profile from prerequisites.
  2. Open a new tab and double click the "Personalize" button.
  3. Observe the Shortcuts string.

[Expected results]:

  • The string remained unchanged.

[Actual results]:

  • The string is selected.

[Notes]:

  • The issue is also reproducible if you double click the "Close" button.
  • Attached a screen recording of the issue.

I tested this and found that double click near the left edge of the button (in ltr with the menu on the right side) will highlight the string, but clicking near the inner edge on the right does not. So I've concluded that the first click triggers the animation and while the animation is happening the second click actually misses the button.
Double clicking on an open space near some text seems to select that text - in general througout Firefox. So I think we have to close this as wontfix, it seems to be regular behaviour, let me know if you disagree.
