When choosing a font in the preferences pane I am only able to change
one font. For example if I change the serif font, I cannot change
another options. I can click on the button next to it, the font panel
appears, but changes are not reflected in the preferences pane. I have
to go back first by choosing "show all" and then back again to the fonts
preferences panel, before I can change the next font (Sansserif). And so on.

I checked this a few times on purpose.  It happened about half the times I
accessed the preferences panel.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open "Preferences" and choose "Appearance" and then "Fonts"
2. Change the serif font - in for example "Bitstream charter". Changes are
reflected immediately.
3. Then click on the button to change the sansserif font and try to change that,
in for example "Myriad Roman".  The changes are not reflected in the preferences
pane.
4. But when you first click the tab "Colours" (so you leave the Fonts pane) and
then again on the tab "Fonts", you can change the second font.

Actual Results:  
See above

Expected Results:  
I expected to see the change reflected instanly, as it did when I changed the
first font.

I use Mac OS X 10.2.  I don't use hacks in order to customize the operating
system in a way that is not provided by the manufacturer.

The only applications running at the time were Finder and the terminal.

WorksForMe using Chimera/2002090913 on 10.1.5. The sans-serif font setting
updates immediately.
