I'd like to prevent the removal of the Backspace keyboard shortcut (bug 1041377) from riding the trains until I land bug 1685779 to add the other Back shortcuts (Command/Alt+Left Arrow, Command/Alt+[) to the Back button's tooltip.
When a user tries to use Backspace to go back and finds it no longer works, they will be frustrated and (if they don't already know about the other shortcuts) will manually click the Back button. The button's tooltip is an opportunity to teach the user about the other shortcuts they can use instead of Backspace. Admittedly this requires that the user's clicking of the button is slow enough to allow the tooltip to pop up and the user actually reads it. Documenting the shortcuts in the button tooltip is not perfect, but it's better than nothing.
We will also announce the change and other shortcuts in a Firefox release note. Reddit (and even ZDNet) have already written about the upcoming change. The sentiment was overall positive.

Ryan, this patch has missed 86 beta (and I r-'d because we need to update a test, too). Now that we need something on beta anyway, per some discussion with :cpeterson, can we back out https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/b1be428bb5d9 (which does include the test change) from beta? And if so, do you need me to put up a patch for that or can you roll it into a beta commit? Thanks.
