This patch was unfortunately required to revert bug 1685563 due to some driver bugs causing rendering issues. So it just undoes the wins the original patch gained. I'm working to resolve those issues so that we can reland it again. In the meantime please don't back out this change, otherwise we will run in to those rendering issues.
