As we saw with some NVIDIA users, we probably want/need the ability to block EGL for some users based on hardware/drivers/etc. It will also be useful to rollout to a subset of users in various channels.

I'd love to go forward here - Andrew, will you have time for this soon? If not, should I try to prepare something?

I'd go with something like:

  • in the following cases only if glxtest reported working EGL
  • on Xwayland, as we can expect working EGL there. Also turn on Webrender were we already support it on X11/Wayland.
  • on Intel/AMD mesa on X11, matching our WR release allowlist
