Environment:

Preconditions:
ETP set to STRICT

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Navigate to: https://www.politico.com/cartoons/2021/02/19/the-nations-cartoonists-on-the-week-in-politics-000206?slide=0 .
  2. Navigate to the next image by clicking on the arrow.
  3. Observe the page

Expected Behavior:
The user can proceed to the next image by clicking "Skip ad".

Actual Behavior:
The user can not proceed to the next image.

Notes:

  • Not reproducible with ETP set to STANDARD.
Summary: User can not proceed to the next image at page politico.com → User can not proceed to the next image at page politico.com with ETP set to STRICT

It looks like our shim for Google Publisher Tags will need to be tweaked to support the requestBids function:

Uncaught TypeError: c.requestBids is not a function

I'll experiment with this to see what we can do.

Blocks: tp-googleads
No longer blocks: tp-breakage

After diagnosing this for a while, I can get the site to a much less broken state by adding shims for Prebid.js and Amazon's TAM, along with improving our Google Publisher Tags shim. The user will end up seeing a black overlay where the ad would usually show, with the usual countdown until they can skip the missing ad, and then a skip button which works.

This issue is also reproducible on 8/2 Firefox Nightly build with GV 92, on Google Pixel (Android 10).
The ETP is set to Strict.

The issue is no longer reproducible on 92.0.0-beta.2 with Google Pixel 3 (Android 12) - ETP Strict enabled.

I was not able to reproduce this issue anymore on the 8/23 Nightly build 93.0a1 with GV 93.0a1, with Lenovo tablet M10 (Android 10).

The issue is no longer reproducible using a Mac device or an iOS device.

Tested with:

Browser / Version: Firefox Nightly 93.0a1 (2021-08-22) (64-bit)
Operating System: Mac OSX 10.15.6
Operating System: Ubuntu 20.4 LTS x64
Browser/Version: Firefox Daylight 36.0 (5732)
Operating System: iOS 14.6
