STRs:

  1. Join a web conference lobby like https://whereby.com/adsfgsdfgsdfg with 2+ cameras
  2. Click Allow in Firefox's permission prompt (if not prompted, revoke permission and goto 1)
  3. Use the site's ⚙️ page to switch to camera 2
  4. Change your mind and click Don't Allow in the Firefox permission prompt that appears

Expected results:

  • No change in permission. The site continues working with camera 1. The user may repeat step 3 successfully

Actual results:

  • "Cam and mic are blocked". The site loses permission to all cameras, and gives up camera 1. The user is stuck.

Proposal:

  • Don't Temporarily Block camera/microphone if site has Temporarily Allow (fixing this common user trap)
  • Rename the Don't Allow button to Not Now if site already has Temporarily Allow.
