Steps to reproduce:

Cannot reproduce. updates to version 88.0a1 on the 3rd of March 2021 and restarted Nightly. It opened only with my regular 7 pined tabs. All the other disappeared. Very annoying.

Actual results:

Expected results:

Restart with all previously opened and pinned tabs.

I assume that as usual, through my lifetime of using Mozilla products, I never get a reply on this with a solution. Help suggestions on Help Sites are all older than 1 year and totally useless. Sorry

1. Install Nightly build from 02-03-2021 and/or prior.
2. Open a fresh profile.
3. Activate "Restore previous session". (checkbox has to be checked in Preferences/General/Startup)
4. Open a bunch of random websites and pin 3 of them.
5. Update to the latest version (and restart).
   Issue reproduction: the pinned tabs are restored, but the others are not.
   No issue: both the pinned tabs and the others are being restored.

Unfortunately, the issue did not reproduce with my steps.
Can you try to answer some questions?

1. I assume you have the "Restore previous session" preference activated if you expect tabs to be restored, right?

if I understand correctly, I am supposed to recreate the problem? Not really guys. Too much hasle.

Yes I had restore Previous session. First thing I did when all the tabs disappeared after the Update was to check it. It was not so I assumed Correctly that the update switched it of. On further Updates

No more such problems so far. I have automatic updates on.

The version before was the one immediately before 88.0a1, the problem is that there was also I think a major monthly update.

Windows 7 Enterprise certain.

I have lots of addons. But Never a problem. Also have lots of Tabs open But that has never killed all the tabs.

Hi, when are we receiving a correction to this problem?

A Few years back I stopped using Firefox because it was full of bugs and problems. We Work with it and to loose various Tabs is a problem.
Then I found Nightly and tried it. Albeit a Beta Browser it has always worked fine until the time I reported this problem.
Now I had it running since then until today and boom... Here it is again. Now I must load all old tabs again. A Tedious problem.

Well i am off to Opera or something similar. Chrome is crap and so are al Chromium based Browsers. Perhaps I have to pay someone to invent a Browser just for me.

Hi Joe,

I am trying to reproduce your issue, but I am constantly unsuccessful. Before getting mad about your issue, let's try to troubleshoot your issue together. It the best way to get to the bottom of it.

Firstly, to make sure you understand what the differences between the Mozilla browsers are, here's a webpage:

In a short story, we have:

1. Firefox Nightly (today version 89.0a1): everyday releases that contain experimental features. (covered regularly on Twitter from @firefoxnightly)
2. Firefox Beta (today has version v88.0b8): Testing the next version of Firefox before it becomes the official release.
3. Firefox Release (today has v87.0): The official release of Firefox! Very stable, also usually the last to get bug fixes (due to stability cooking in the versions above)
4. Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release, today has version 78.9.0esr): an official version of Firefox developed for large organizations like universities and businesses that need to set up and maintain Firefox on a large scale. Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.
   My idea is to choose your browser wisely. I'd personally recommend the Release version if you want stability.

Now... regarding your issue, consider how hard it is to find the cause of your type of issue actually is. Considering you use this browser regularly with a single profile (as you should), there is a conglomerate of user data like addons and other cached information that is constantly growing.
Let's attempt to troubleshoot your problem:

1. Usually, the addons are the problem, so you could try to disable the addon that influences the actual area of your issue, Session Boss. So... you could start by disabling that specific extension and observe the behavior in the next browsing sessions.
2. If the issue still reproduces, be sure to check the preferences of your browser and it's properly set up for you (the browser can be set up to restore your last session on its own, with no add-on help).

Well thank you for your attempts to help.
Right.... well It happens now on a regular basis now, and none of you implied situations are taking place here. I am Firefox Savvy and I don't use anything which might be the problem. No multiple Profiles and as far as addons are concerned these were already there and were working fine until that day it started to happen. If Firefox was a safe I would not need recommended third party addons such as DeCentralEyes, or uBlockOrigin, or I don't care about cookies, etc. My humble opinion, and no disrespect to those of you who work hard changing things to constantly making it better and prettier, but oftentimes simple is better. A lot of people have distanciated from Firefox as a result. I use Nightly because I like a lot of the new features and the fact that at one stage I could use as many Tabs as I wished, it seems not it shakes after more than 50 tabs. I admit that at one stage I had somewhat in excess of 100 tabs open.
But you know, old IT saying is "never change a running system" and Firefox does, always, we don't even know when, in a race with Chrome.
Why get rid of Java for instance? This is still pretty much needed. Or why does Firefox claim safer browsing when in fact it is not.
Why is Firefox an Heavy Platform? Why does it slow down my Internet Connection? Even on Idle and with just three Tabs open it runs my CPU at 25% and slows down my Internet connection by 100+ Mbps.
Why does it constantly communicate with someone through the internet even when we are not doing anything?
I do not like Chromium or Chrome, or Opera, but I think I might have to get another type of browser. Firefox no longer appeals.
And also, i my Browser is properly setup to Restore previous session. It is Config which is crap. Also When we try to get help at Mozilla we all run into very old entries which needless to say are totally outdated. Everything is well documented ... in excess documented but mostly wrongly documented. Oftentimes I end up finding solutions by myself and reading about solution for Firefox outside the Mozilla world. Ironically...
You have no solution. I had another crash today. All tabs gone, history gone, what the heck... Thank you so much for your troubles.

I have to remind you that Session Boss is an extension that does just that (gets involved with your browsing session and storage):
"Session Boss lets you capture the session of the windows and tabs in the browser and restore them later on. It automates the saving of the browsing sessions with periodic saving schedules and URL change detection. It supports saving of containers and restoring them."
If you have lost your session it may be because of it, otherwise, why would it not restore your session?

Considering appropriate information was not provided, I will close this issue as incomplete.
